Spider-Man Episode 8-Strange Tales from the Past= the Cursed Cat Grave
Assault weapons, human modification, murdering moustache dudes with afros, what won’t the Iron Cross Army do next? Oh why it’s digging up graves! A trio of Ninders dig up a Cat Grave with the bones of a pretty big feline. Just what the hell are they planning?
An old lady with a little kitty inside a temple learns from another cat that something has happened. As it turns out the Ninders dug up a pretty important grave. If nothing is done about this, a deadly curse will soon follow! At the Iron Cross base, Amazoness is looking a bit more creeped out than her usual angry self, especially since they dug up a friggin’ cat demon.
Professor Monster explains the origin of these bones, as it all started 200 years ago during the Edo era. A monster cat roamed the streets of Toei Edo-town attacking fair maidens until a brave swordsman cut that damned feline in twain. How the cat bones aren’t clearly split down the miracle are a testament to the samurai’s skills. Now with the bones, Professor Monster will create a new Machine Bem to curse the human race once again!
The next day, Hitomi and Takuya are going to a temple for a story to meet the old lady. Apparently she can talk to cats and this would make a great story for Weekly Woman. They arrive, and the priestess is busy with a little ritual. She tells them that the cats told her of their arrival. She tells them that nobody ever comes by, hence the state of the temple. The old lady lives here with a cat that looks like Hitler and its daughter, the little kitty.
The old lady takes the interview outside where Hitomi learns how she can talk with cats. The granny has a PhD in feline studies! Actually, she’s been living here for so long she can understand what they’re feeling. She takes them to the cat grave and tells them that it was just desecrated by some unknown people. Takuya has a feeling that the Iron Cross Army is behind this, but somehow his Spider-Senses can’t fully confirm it, despite them being sooo awesome.
That night, the Cat Demon Monster awakens and begins a night on the town, raising up the body count from the previous episode. Her modus operandi is basically sucking the blood out of people, and with the pretty big amount of corpses by the riverbed, it still wants more to live! CDM is interrupted by the sound of a cat, more specifically, Kitler!
And so the Machine Bem attacks the poor ridiculously cute kitty with his ring but is saved in time by the true emissary from hell! They fight and it isn’t clear who has the upper hand as the Cat Demon manages to fend off each blow. The match ends when she spies a woman in a kimono approaching the temple and attacks her. Spider-Man leaps to save the poor girl, and the monster retreats.
Back at the Iron Cross base, Amazoness is angry at CDM’s failure to kill the wall-crawler, and of course she commands her to kill the old lady at the temple. What did she ever do to them? Anyway, if CDM doesn’t complete the job, no blood for her. Professor Monster reiterates the command, kill Spider-Man then slaughter the old lady.
The next day it looks like CDM broke the orders by killing the old lady first. Sigh. Takuya arrives too late, and vows to the little kitten that he will defeat the cat demon and he will avenge the old lady’s death! He notices a cat statue and wonders exactly for what it is. He goes outside and it suddenly turns dark. Takuya tries to turn into Spider-Man, but it’s too late! The Cat Demon Monster attacks, and starts talking about how Takuya looks exactly like the swordsman who cuts her down. He gets scratches by the monster, and he arrives home with a serious fever, possibly rabies?
His fever still won’t go down after a few hours, and Hitomi arrives to check on him. If the Spider-Blood gave him an accelerated healing factor, it better work this time, especially when he’s not going to let some mere scratch kill him this time. That night he has a dream of the swordsman cutting down that damned cat, and figures out he may be an ancestor of his.
As Shinko is cleaning up for the night, the Cat Demon terrorizes the Yamashiro household. Takuji and Hitomi runs down to see what’s the matter. While the girls cower, Takuji takes out a bat and opens the door to find… a dog. Luckily that canine was here to scare off the Cat Demon too.
The next morning, Takuya is fully healed and ready to go. Downstairs, Takuji talks about how another woman was attacked last night. Wow looks like that damn cat broke orders. Hitomi went out for the scoop and it’s up to Spidey to stop the Cat Demon from harming his girlfriend. She tries to shoo the monster away, and once again doesn’t take the cool shots she needs for work.
Spider-Man heads to the temple and figures out the cat statue is the key to sealing the cat demon away. Meanwhile, the Cat Demon Monster takes a busload of children hostage, and drives rather well for something that was dead for 200 years. Spider-Man hurries and tries to do the spell that will defeat the demon and it’s a success!
The final fight for this episode begins as the Cat Demon freaks out while driving the bus full of children and then crashes! What happened to the class? Never mind, what matters is that Spidey kicks the Iron Cross Army’s butts, with requisite giant battle. Amazoness chortles as the cat demon shoots its flame breath at Leopardon. The CDM continues its lame fight by trying to rocket punch the robot and she fails somehow as it bounces off its chest.
This was a pretty darn creepy episode, as our wall-crawler is dealing with forces usually beyond a mere mortal’s ken. Two episodes ago, he welded a machine gun, and now he’s doing magic! This is shaping up to be a pretty fun show, though it’s clear that the Marveller scenes are bringing it down. Then again, you can just skip to the ending song as soon as the monster grows big, but the scene is soo short that it won’t matter.
The next episode, a beetle and Spider-Man’s sister!
